hello from EDMUND

Hello and a very warm welcome. I recognise it takes courage to seek out support.

Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, struggling to cope, and unsure of how to navigate life’s many challenges. Through offering a compassionate and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship, my aim is for us to gently unravel and untangle your thoughts and feelings, working together to make sense of what’s going on for you.

You may wish to develop strategies for coping with difficult emotions, seek to understand unhelpful patterns of behaviour or navigate decisions about change. Each person’s therapeutic journey is unique, yet our common desire is simply to feel better. It is important to me that from our first session together, we are working towards this goal.

My approach aims to help you reconnect with yourself, even if you are still discovering who that is. In so doing, we will start to uncover what has brought you to the place that you find yourself in. No matter how overwhelming the pain or challenges you may feel, we will face them together in a safe and empathetic space. My role is to act as a supportive and understanding guide; enhancing your ability to draw upon your internal resources. It is for you to direct the content and pace of sessions in a way you feel comfortable with.

I offer a free 20 minute initial telephone consultation, which is an invitation for you to tell me a little of what has been troubling you.

In addition to seeing clients in person at The Wilbury Clinic, I offer online sessions via Zoom. I am a registered provider of psychotherapy for clients who have private and work-based health insurance, please see my website for more details: https://enh-counselling.co.uk/

Humanistic Integrative Counsellor

Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling. MBACP.

Cost: £55.00 per session

Specialisms:

Substance misuse, domestic abuse and violence, and trauma.

hello from STEPH

I am highly experienced in working with issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, loss and grief. Sometime we find ourselves feeling sad, angry, anxious, hopeless and unsure of what is going on. Many of us find that being able to speak honestly, in confidence and without judgement, can help us gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and what is really going on.

I offer a safe place to explore your individual needs and work with you to find the very best solutions to the specific issues that are hindering you, to enable you to live the fulfilling and rewarding life you deserve.

I am a humanistic, integrative counsellor which means that I believe you are the expert on yourself. I do not offer advice but work with you to get to where you want to be. Integrative counselling means I bring different approaches together to offer tailor-made therapy for you. We can work together for as few or as many therapy sessions that you feel you need.

I am aware from my own personal therapy of the rewards and challenges that can be met through having therapy, and I am always understanding and respectful of what is going on for you.

Cost: £60.00 per session

Works With: Adults 18+

hello from LIZ

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Perhaps you are wondering whether counselling can help you.

For many of us, there are times when life seems full of challenge and uncertainty. We can feel trapped or disheartened; unsure how to move forward. We may feel anxious, alone, overwhelmed by difficulties, or just have a sense that “something isn’t right”. Sometimes, we might just need some moral support from a good friend. However, this may not always be enough. As your counsellor, I will stay alongside you as you explore your life experience and emotions. I offer a calm, supportive space where you can be open, and talk about issues without having to hide or mask your true feelings.

I work with the humanistic approach, meaning that I meet you wherever you are in your world and help you find your own purpose and way-of-being. Our work together will be collaborative, with the direction chosen by you. We may look at recurring patterns of behaviour, whether these still work for you. Together, we will work out what is important to you, and how you can live a meaningful life. We are capable of change and growth throughout our lives, but sometimes we need support to find our way. My own experience of therapy showed me the importance of the quality of the therapeutic relationship. So, the first session will enable us to get a feel for each other, and decide whether we can work well together.

I offer short and long term therapy, and am open to working with whatever my client brings. I have a particular interest in relationships, issues faced by adult adoptees, times of major life change, grief, loss and chronic illness.

EMDR Psychotherapist

MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (Middlesex University).

UKCP-Accredited EMDR-Psychotherapist.

HCPC-registered Music Psychotherapist

EMDR Training with EMDR Europe

Additional Attachment-focussed EMDR Training.

Cost: £70.00 per session

Specialisms:

Depression and low mood, anxiety, stress, loss, trauma (PTSD and CPTSD), loss of purpose, personal development.

Works With: Adults 18+

hello from CATHY

I am a UKCP-accredited EMDR Psychotherapist in private practice since 2020. I understand that life can sometimes feel challenging, and I offer a warm, calm, non-judgmental space for short and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy. I am fully trained in EMDR, (a NICE, National Association of Clinical Excellence, approved treatment for trauma) and also Attachment-Focussed EMDR. This means I am equipped to work sensitively and creatively with people experiencing a wide range of issues – both the ‘small-T’ traumas of childhood, as well as the ‘big-T’ traumas of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,’ (CPTSD). As a former teacher and Music Psychotherapist, I have worked in some capacity with people for over 30 years – experience upon which I draw in creating with you the bespoke therapeutic space you need, towards transformation and change.

My style is respectful, inclusive, compassionate, and empathic, as I believe that we all share a common humanity. I know it can be hard to reach out and offer you an initial, free 15-minute phone call to answer any questions you might have. I then offer two exploratory sessions, during which I listen carefully to understand what you bring, and explore with you what you most need from therapy (your goals), before asking you to commit to an agreed (or open-ended) time.

In my view, healing or recovery starts when you feel seen and heard, and more in touch with your own authentic, wise, empowered, self. To facilitate this process as we work together, I often draw upon knowledge about the human condition gleaned from my 5-year integrative training such as:

  • traditional (psycho-dynamic, transactional analysis, attachment, relational psychoanalysis) and more contemporary, philosophical (humanistic) ideas about how our personalities function.
  • IFS (Internal Family Systems) which offers coherent insights into the impact off trauma upon our personalities
  • EMDR (see below) body-based wisdoms, trauma theory and psychoeducation which teaches about the impact of trauma/life’s challenges upon the brain and nervous system, and ways to reverse this
  • wider, bigger picture considerations around the roles we play in society, life, and reflections upon purpose, meaning, existence etc.
  • As an HCPC-registered Music Psychotherapist, I also offer the possibility of integrating creative, music approaches into our work. I am the only UK Psychotherapist also trained in these methods and see them as valuable ways to develop inner resources which create the best conditions for EMDR processing

You can read more about EMDR here, https://emdrassociation.org.uk/ and from my website.

I see EMDR as a powerful tool for transformation – not as an isolated intervention, (something to be ‘done’ to you), but when embedded within the therapeutic relationship, our emerging understanding of your specific past as it continues to impact your present. Within the structure of the highly evidence-based protocol, EMDR processing involves bi-lateral stimulation, (a powerful way of working with both brain hemispheres) which enables your brain to process trauma stuck in your system. This reduces its specific effects, leading to what is known as ‘adaptive information.’ How this looks is unique for each person and past clients have reported a reduction in their symptoms, surprisingly new, positive ways of understanding or experiencing themselves. Life here looks different from before; there is a sense that the past now truly belongs in the past, paving the way for a calmer, more hopeful future. I offer EMDR both within shorter and longer-term therapy – something we can plan during initial consultations.

It’s important to say that as a responsible, ethical practitioner, I abide by the codes of conduct set out by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) which is in turn accredited by the Government body, the Professional Standards Authority. To meet the UKCP’s high standards, I have regular supervision with senior practitioners and participate in regular continual professional development to expand my knowledge and update my skills.

Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

PGDip Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling, PhD Developmental Psychology. Working Towards: MSc Psychotherapy. MBACP. UKCP Trainee.

Cost: £60.00 per session

The first session is offered at a reduced fee of £40.00.

hello from CHARLOTTE R.

I would like to warmly welcome you. In seeking counselling, there may be things about you or your life that you are finding hard or would like to change. Life has many ways of being challenging that might lead you to feel your life is not how you want it to be. I remember looking for a therapist and trying to find someone that I could trust enough to share whatever I was facing in my life. Here, I hope to give you an idea of what our work together might be like so that you can find the support to make the changes that you want.

My name is Charlotte (she/her). I am a qualified humanistic counsellor and am currently training to become a psychotherapist. I believe effective therapy to be underpinned by the co-creation of a trustworthy and reliable relationship. Whilst prioritising the unique quality of each relationship, I offer my warmth, compassion and empathy to create a space in which you may feel safe to bring all the parts of yourself and your experience. I endeavour to stay alongside you as we explore anything about you, your life and your identity. This includes the thoughts, feelings and experiences that have caused you pain and distress as well as those that have brought you satisfaction and happiness. I aim to sensitively attune to your experience of yourself and your world and attend to what comes up for you from your past, your present and into your future. I offer support and challenge to what emerges in our sessions and what it means to you. This enables you to face your issues with increased clarity and insight, leave behind things that no longer serve you and move ahead with your life more comfortably.

Previously, I worked in a pastoral role in primary schools for 15 years offering social and emotional support to children and families through 1:1 work and group-work, and I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues.

Specialisms:

hello from SUSIE

I follow the humanistic tradition, using an existential person-centred approach. This means that I hope to help you understand and explore your personal world, finding meaning in your experiences. I believe that everyone has the potential to change and grow, but to be human involves suffering: with anxiety, uncertainty, freedom, choice and isolation. I will support you through this journey, offering non-judgemental listening, acceptance and hope for positive change.

I sometimes work with narratives and life-stories, exploring the tales that have shaped your identity. These may include family messages, cultural scripts, and deeply internalised self-beliefs. Perhaps you hold certain ideas about yourself, which make you feel stuck, frustrated and limited. Together, we can explore these ‘personal myths’ to understand where they have come from. Then, we might gently challenge them and consider some alternatives to help you create a new story.

Therapy can help when you are questioning aspects of self-identity. This may occur at moments of transition in life, for example following a relationship ending, moving home, or adjusting to a health condition. Perhaps you are wondering about who you are, reconsidering past and future versions of yourself, or finding different ways of being that you would like to explore.

Sadness, loss and grief can take many different forms. Alongside bereavement by death, there are more ambiguous feelings of missing, wishing, yearning, distance and disconnection. Perhaps someone close has moved out of your life, or your relationship with them has changed. You might have given something up, lost part of your former identity, or had a future taken away. All of these experiences are valid.

Some of my work is with people who are diagnosed with autism or self-identify as autistic, as well as those with ADHD, dyslexia and other related conditions. Being neurodivergent can involve feelings of difference and otherness, and reflections on changing identity. I am also LGBTQIA+ affirmative and welcome people of all genders and sexualities.

Child and Adolescent Integrative Arts Therapist

Diploma in Child Counselling. BA(Hons) English Literature.

Cost: £60.00 per session

Specialisms:

Anxiety, low mood, self-harm, suicidal ideation, education, SEND, neuroaffirmative therapy for young women and girls, care-experienced young people.

Works With: Children and Young People

hello from ROSIE

I am an experienced child and adolescent integrative arts counsellor and supervisor who has worked across the public sector and in private practice over the last nine years. I am a registered therapeutic provider with Brighton and Hove’s Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund.

I support children and young people experiencing specific mental health difficulties, with intense emotions or relational issues that feel too tricky to navigate without support and with challenging life events that impact their wellbeing.

I hope to provide a warm, collaborative and non-judgemental space for young people to explore their feelings and experiences. My approach combines traditional talking therapy with creative arts or play to meet the needs of my individual clients. Some young people love working creatively – it might be something they enjoy or helps them to communicate things they haven’t been able to find the right the words for before. Other young people prefer to talk to process and make sense of what is going on for them together.

Counselling is deeply relational and ‘finding the right person’ for your family is very important. To support this process, I offer a free telephone consultation with parents/carers where we can discuss your child’s needs and how I might be able to help.

hello from SARAH

Welcome, I’m Sarah, a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor based in Hove and Worthing. With over 15 years’ experience working in the social care sector with adults, children and families, I bring proficiency and compassion to my work.

The therapeutic space is as an opportunity for us to explore your inner world together, and to consider you as whole person, rather than focusing solely on any difficulties, problems or symptoms you may be experiencing. This places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of what we do. It is an opportunity for you to have the space and time to gain greater awareness about your thoughts, feelings and beliefs and what brings meaning into your life.

Alongside completing my postgraduate training at The University of Brighton, I also work as a qualified Social Worker with both adults and children.

Through this avenue, I have been able to support individuals in what might be some of the more challenging periods of their life- such as mental health crises, chronic and acute illness, and family and relationship issues. I have also worked with a broad range of clients in a charitable low-cost counselling service.

Although my therapeutic training was humanistic and I use an existential framework- I take an integrative approach, meaning I am flexible in my framework depending upon the unique needs of the person I am working with. This allows for a more holistic approach to working with each person and honours their individuality.

As a registered member of the BACP I adhere to their ethical framework. This means a commitment to upholding professional standards, attending regular supervision and committing to ongoing continuing professional development.

I offer a free initial telephone consultation. Finding the right therapist can be a challenge so it is important that you feel comfortable with the person you are working with. During the call we can briefly explore what you hope to get out of the sessions and see if you feel we might be a good fit.
