My name is Stephanie Anderson, I am an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor working in the Sussex area. I trained at the Wealden Psychology Institute where I gained my Diploma in Humanistic Counselling.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.
I genuinely believe that at the very heart of counselling , beyond the various approaches and interventions, lies the key that makes all the difference, that key is the relationship between a client and their counsellor. It is this relationship that forms the bedrock from which all manner of possibilities can flourish and grow.
I strive to provide the right conditions to allow this unique relationship to take shape. I combine both empathy and congruence with a non judgmental attitude, whilst at the same time using creativity and skills from a variety of approaches. My goal is to work together to form an alliance that will give you the space and time you need to be truly heard. I work in partnership with my clients to help facilitate the changes that are needed and to restore balance back to their lives. For some this could very well be the first time they have spoken of issues that cause them pain and discomfort, my role is to actively encourage your own pace of work so that you genuinely feel in control, even when working on sensitive or difficult topics.
I combine a variety of humanistic approaches and theories, such as Person Centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, CBT and mix them with the core concepts of Erikson, Bowlby and Egan to create my own particular way of working.
I myself have always found that creativity mixes wonderfully well with counselling techniques, so I am able to draw upon my creative background and skills to provide a range of therapeutic interventions from sand-tray work and puppets, to art work and Russian dolls should my client feel they want to explore something a bit different.
All creative work is either done on request of the client or is offered as a suggestion to compliment therapy work, and may only be done with my clients full permission.
